The new books detailing the history and story of Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Parks
Glen Eden Memorial Parks are quiet, beautiful resting places for our deceased loved ones, dedicated to the glory of God, and awaiting the Great Day of Resurrection when Christ, our Lord, returns in glory. They are peaceful places for remembrance, reflection, and godly meditation.
In documenting the history of Glen Eden, two new books have been published and authored by Glen Eden’s Board Secretary, the Rev. Dr. David Stechholz:
God’s Acre: The History of Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Parks ($80, including state sales tax; unabridged, 455 pages, with 767 footnotes, colored pictures on high-quality paper, hard back with dust jacket.
God’s Acre: The Story of Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Parks ($16, including state sales tax; abridged, 154 pages, no footnotes or indices, black & white pictures, and soft cover).
Both versions help promote our Lutheran cemeteries by helping people reflect on the sanctity of human life, even in death. These books make great Christmas or birthday gifts and all sale profits go to Glen Eden to help defray production costs.
Books are available at the Glen Eden Memorial Park West Office, 35667 Eight Mile Road, Livonia, or Glen Eden Memorial Park East Office, 19810 26 Mile Road, Macomb.
If you are interested in purchasing these books, please contact our Livonia office at (248) 477-4460.
I thought I knew all about Glen Eden. My father was on its Board for over 20 years. But God’s Acre showed me how much more there is to know. David Stechholz’s account is a fascinating story about dedicated Lutherans meeting the challenges of 50 years to begin, retain, and expand Glen Eden all the while maintaining it as a fitting place to bury our dead “in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life.”

Reading about renowned resting places can be fascinating, and not just for the historian. There is much to be learned, and not just concerning notables interned, but insights into other facets of history surrounding the burial ground may be gained. Such is the case with God’s Acre: The History of Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Parks by the Rev. Dr. David P. Stechholz. This Lutheran cemetery is well-chronicled within the context of local, state, national, international and denominational history. Organized chronologically, the account is displayed with attractive photographs and footnoted documentation throughout. Whether for pleasure, genealogy, or church history, I heartily recommend God’s Acre.

Editor-in-Chief, Concordia Historical Institute Quarterly
